Air Craw takes out WA Bream Classic Grand Final
Although they have only been in the country for 3 weeks, the Damiki Air Craw has already notched its first tournament victory claiming the WA bream Classic Grand Final. Not only did the Air Craws play a large part in the Victory but they also landed the events big bream of 1.2Kg. The Winning Team was WAFM ((The Western Australian Fishing Magazine) which is made up of Damiki Pro Staff member angler Dror Pietsch and WAFM’s Ian Sewell) Below is Dror’s write up of the event.
“Our preparation for the grand final had been less than ideal with neither of us having been able to get out for a prefish. We would have to rely on fishing spots that had produced fish for us in the past events.
The day got off to a reasonable start with an undersize fish coming over the side within the first few casts. At least there was some action. With the water discoloured from the winter rains the Skin Blue M-grub was getting by far the most attention early in the day. After a couple of pulled hooks the first legal hit the deck and at around 850grams it was a good start to the bag. Another 3 soon joined the livewell again falling to the M-grub.
The bag was full by around 8:30 and things were looking good. We decided to change to the 2” Air Craws in Skin Blue and Oxblood Red to try to entice a take from some bigger fish. It didn’t take long before a solid 1.2kg fish ate the Oxblood Red offering that was being slowly twitched along the bottom. This fish added 700 plus grams to the bag and we were starting to feel that we were in contention for a podium finish.

The fishing in our honey hole went quiet about halfway through the session so a decision was made to move to a spot only 500 metres away. This new area was nothing that would inspire great confidence in anyone but for some reason it holds some quality fish on a small drop off out from the bank. The move payed off quickly, with another quality fish falling to the Skin Blue Air Craw and the bag gaining another 500 or 600 grams. We were now left with only one fish that measured less than 30cm to the fork. Despite a steady stream of fish coming into the boat over the rest of the session, nothing was bigger that the fish we had.
We were confident of finishing high up the field with a bag estimated at well over 3kg but as the weigh in continued it became apparent that a lot of the other teams had experienced similarly successful days. Alls well that ends well though and with a final weight of 3.465kg we were able to hold on to the top spot and secure our first victory for the year. You have to love it when a plan comes together. “
