I owe my love for fishing to my father, who used to play fishing games with me at home until I was old enough to join him on a real trip. My first fish was a locally caught redfin, though I went on to learn most of my fishing basics on the Goulburn River in Thornton, chasing trout with bait and the odd salt water excursion thrown into the mix. It was not until my high school years that I started to fish regularly and would ride my bike down to the local ponds and chase carp and yabbies early in the morning with baits.
A few years ago I was introduced to soft plastics when a friend pulled them out and caught a couple of fish in quick succession, he hadn't troubled the scorers prior to that! I tied one on and first cast, a redfin crunched the lure and i went on to pull a number more. This sparked an interest in artificials and I've never looked back. I then threw soft plastics and hardbodies into any local waterway I could find that might hold redfin, something that I still do to this day. However, it was not until I caught the Bream bug that my love for fishing with plastics and hard bodies went to another level. My outfits have got better and better and my lure collection has grown to scary proportions which annoys the hell out of my parents.
My relationship with damiki lures began with a successful entry in an online photo competition where I had caught a brown trout on a spinner and was awarded with a vast array of plastics and hard bodies from damiki. Motoroil Red M Grubs became my got to lure for most species, in particular bream, with the D grubs and Damiki Mu-Sp slaying the Redfin and even a huge goldfish! I have now reached a point where I'm only using damiki plastics for all of my fishing needs.
These days, I do most of my fishing out of my Hobie Outback for Bream in the Maribyrnong River, as well as chasing Trout, Squid and Redfin landbased in various locations around Victoria. This year I have been lucky enough to catch my first Snapper out of the kayak and look forward to many more of these magnificent fish, throwing 5 inch Armor Shads and 4.5 Inch Monster Mikis. My goals for the coming year are to make my debut in the ABT Hobie rounds, as well as catch more native species such as the mighty Murray Cod using the new Damiki GPS Spinnerbaits.
I truly believe that damiki and pontoon 21 products have the potential to revolutionize each and every anglers fishing, as they have for me. I've seen the company go from strength to strength and they are always on the cutting edge of new product development and technologies. I'm honored to be part of Searing Tackle, and I encourage everyone to give their products a go and experience them for yourself.
